A Twitter rage from numerous celebrities went viral after United Airlines denied two teenage girls, who were wearing leggings, to board a plane on a Sunday morning flight. But now, the airline responds to the situation that leggings are okay for them and that it was more of a passenger issue rather than a dress code discrimination issue.

According to 9NEWS, United Airlines was bombarded with tweets from social media users after Shannon Watts posted on her Twitter account that the girls were not allowed to board the plane until they changed their clothes. Watts isn't related to the family and was on a different flight at that time.

In response to the said issue, the carrier explained the whole situation in one of their posts on their website which was entitled "To our customers...your leggings are welcome." Basically, the whole point of the statement talked about the passenger privileges of the girls in question. Business Traveller reported that the two girls were United pass riders which meant that they were under the dress code policy of the airline.

Being a United pass rider means that you get fare discounts or free travel if you're a company employee or a relative or friend of an employee. By that, you are considered to follow all the rules and regulations since you are an extended representative of the airline.

United Airlines representative Jonathan Guerin stated that leggings and yoga pants are allowed for regular customers. Pass riders are allowed to wear casual attire as long as it's decorous. For example, flip-flops aren't also allowed for pass riders. Now, for the two girls that were asked to change their clothes, if they weren't pass riders, they could have boarded the plane without having to put up with all the trouble.
