Havana's First Five-Star Hotel Opens Now

A new ultra-luxury hotel opens in the city of Havana in Cuba, being the first ever true five-star hotel in the country. Gran Hotel Manzana La Habana Kempinski opens this week to both local and foreign tourists.

In an article published by Hospitalitynet.org, the Gran Hotel Manzana La Habana Kempinski is a 246-room hotel had a soft opening a few weeks ago. But this Wednesday, officials cut a red ribbon in officially launching the first five-star hotel in Havana, Cuba.

The rooms in Gran Hotel Manzana La Habana Kempinski are also carved out of the historic Manzana de Gomez building, which is the first European-style shopping arcade in Havana, Cuba. The hotel is run by a Swiss hotel chain under a management contract with the military-run Grupo de Turismo Gaviota.

"Our property will not only be the first of its kind in this market, but we believe it sets a new standard for the entire Caribbean," general manager of the property operated by Geneva-based Kempinski Hotels Xavier Destribats said. He also said that they have been very strategic about expanding their brand to Havana and they are convinced that this is the right time and the right market for Kempinski.

The Gran Hotel Manzana La Habana Kempinski is located in San Rafael Street between Monserrate and Zulueta in Havana. The hotel will feature six restaurants and bars, a 10-764-square-foor European-style spa with a thermal bathing area, a rooftop infinity pool, and a state-of-the-art gym.
"Since it was declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, tourism has exploded in Havana and we believe the market is ready for a true luxury hotel," Destribats said. Prices for this hotel in Havana would range from $470 to $1,385 per night. For tourists coming from the US, it's time to book at the hotel before Trump revised the country's policy towards Cuba.
