The first trailer for Netflix's original movie "Bright" was aired during the commercial break for the Academy Awards. The trailer showed actor Will Smith playing a cop in what appears to be a normal city except it's also inhabited by mystical creatures such as orcs, elves, and more.

According to a report from The Verge, the short teaser didn't reveal much about the movie, save for its reality combined with fantasy theme. The trailer showed an orc, played by John Edgerton, wielding a shotgun and Smith holding a broadsword that looks battered.

Araceli Roach of Screen Rant said that actresses Noomi Rapace and Lucy Fry also made an appearance in the movie, playing "a kind of fairy, elf creatures." Smith and Edgerton will be partners in the movie and they must work together to stop evil forces from taking control of a very powerful wand.

The report from The Verge said that Netflix shelled out "upwards of $90 million" to create the film, with $45 million being set aside for shooting. The script for the movie cost $3 million and it was written by Max Landis.

The movie will be directed by David Ayers, who directed "Suicide Squad where Smith was also part of. Roach said that Ayers was best known for "gritty cop drama" movies like "End of Watch" and "Training Day."

His recent films, though, have been diversifying a bit with "Sabotage," an action mystery film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the war film "Fury," which stars Brad Pitt.

The airing of the trailer during the Academy Awards' commercial break is a unique approach. Roach said that this shows Netflix is willing to prove that they can compete with the big studios when it comes to big-budget movies. Check out the first trailer for Netflix's "Bright" in the video below.
