A study conducted by the American Society For Nutrition shows that supplementation of gelatin enriched with Vitamin C can help prevent physical injuries relating to physical activities such as exercising.

This holiday season is filled with family reunions and galas. These events would mean all those flavorful dishes and lovely desserts. Who would want to celebrate the holidays not having a cake, even for just a teensy bitsy bite? Well, many would predict an increase in their food intake and the almost inevitable gain of those holiday pounds.

Like any other regular days, one way, and perhaps the most effective way, to maintain or lose some weight is through exercise. May it be running, power-cycling or yoga, spending some time being active is beneficial to our health.

But like any other strenuous activity, exercising can sometimes cause some physical injuries, including sprains, strains and breakage of our skeletal tissues. Through practicing some interventions, these injuries can be prevented.

In the study funded by The National Institute on Aging and the Australian Institute of Sport, it was found out that supplementation with gelatin can help in reducing the prevalence of ligament injuries during physical activities and even repair them. But not just any regular gelatin. In the study, these are enriched with Vitamin C.

The objective of the study was to test whether gelatin supplementation is effective in preventing ligament injuries by strengthening the collagen. According to Futurity, the study was done to eight healthy men who took the supplement, after which had their blood tested. After five minutes, the men were asked to do skipping exercises.

Results from the American Society For Nutrition showed that indications of collagen synthesis are seen after an hour of taking the Vitamin C-enriched gelatin supplement. In effect, this data concludes that gelatin supplementation is beneficial for injury prevention.

This study can both benefit regular people who exercise for fitness and health, and for people who are into more strenuous sports activities.
