Casablanca may not be Morocco's capital, but it is the heart and soul of the country's economic, business, and industrial activities.

But beyond the modern advancements, there is a lot of depth to Casablanca—centuries' worth of heritage, culture, and history. There's much to discover in this city for anyone who heads its way.

Let's get to know Casablanca.

How to Get to Casablanca

To reach Casablanca, tourists, especially international ones, typically land at the Mohammed V International Airport, Morocco's largest airport. Multiple hubs around the world, including Dubai, Cairo, and Paris, have flights to the Mohammed V International Airport.

However, it should be noted that the airport is located in Nouasseur, which is still some distance from Casablanca. This means that tourists have to either take the train, taxi, or private car to get to the city.

Where to Stay

When it comes to accommodations, hotels are still the most common in Casablanca, and the options range from budget friendly to luxury. There are also hostels and apartments that can be rented in the city.

However, those looking for a full Moroccan experience should stay at a riad, which is a traditional Moroccan house, or a Maison d'hôtes, which is essentially a guest house that is typically located within a villa.

You cannot visit Casablanca and not see the Hassan II Mosque, one of the world's largest mosques. There are tours that are conducted here, including for visitors who are non-Muslims.

For anyone looking for picture-perfect architecture, make sure to visit the Royal Palace and the Notre Dame de Lourdes Church. For shopaholics, there's the Central Market and the Morocco Mall, one of the continent's largest shopping centers.

Of course, don't forget to check out the historic Old Medina, which is full of shops and cafes, and Habous Quarter or the New Medina.

What to Eat

While Casablanca isn't really known for street food, you can still find a lot of local dishes when you dine in the city. Don't forget to try the Tagine, which comes in different varieties that include chicken and lamb, and Pastilla, a popular Moroccan pie.

Casablanca is more of a cafe city, and you'll find many of them in different areas, such as Boulevard de la Corniche. Order yourself an espresso or café au lait and some pastries.

Again, if you wanna go full on local, don't leave the city without trying Moroccan Mint Tea.
