Built during the Roman era, the citadel you see today was improved by French military engineer Vauban. Today, it is one of the best-know tourist destinations in Namur.

The Terra Nova Visitor Centre is one of the main stops of any traveler visiting the Citadel of Namur. This is where you can learn the history of the fortress through multimedia displays.

Guided Underground Tour

One of the main attractions that draw travelers to the Citadel of Namur are its underground passages. For those who are interested to explore them and learn more about its history, there are guided tours available. 

Visitors can enjoy 450 meters of restored galleries that include 3D animations and projections. Reservations should be made in advance and can be done online

Tourist Train

If seemingly endless walking is not your cup of tea, you can opt to board the tourist train instead. The train allows you to comfortable view the sights in the fortress as well as of the river, valley, and the rest of Namur. 

Like the guided underground tour, reservations should be made in advance and can be done online. The train departs from the Terra Nova Visitor Centre.
