Netflix has just released the first trailer for its live-action adaptation movie "Death Note," which is scheduled to premiere in August. The streaming service company also released their official description of the movie, which shows how the movie has an "American twist" on some things.

According to a report from The Verge, the first trailer shows Light Turner, being played by Nat Wolf of "The Fault In Our Stars," finds the notebook named "Death Note." He then learns that every name written in the book will die, which he decides to use to take out criminals.

The report said that while Light was using the "Death Note" in his quest for justice, the bored shinigami Ryuk, played by Willem Dafoe, watches him. The movie is based on the 2003 hit manga series "Death Note," created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Netflix's own live-adaptation is directed by Adam Wingard, the director of "Blair Witch." And joining Dafoe and Wolf in the cast are Keith Stanfield as L, the nemesis of Light, Margaret Qualley as Mia Sutton, which is the version of Misa Amane of the original series.

Aside from the trailer, Netflix also released the official description of the movie. ComicBook says it shows that the streaming service company is "taking a new American twist on things." The part of Netflix's description that's different from the original manga and anime movie is the statement where the writer on the notebook would need to picture the face of the person being written.

In the manga, all Light needs to do is to write the name of the person and he or she will instantly die. But for Netflix's version, Light would also need to picture the face of the person that he is writing in order for him or her to die.

Netflix's "Death Note" movie is scheduled to premiere on August 25. Check out the first trailer for the movie in the video below.
