Hugh Jackman will be playing his last role as Wolverine when "Logan" finally hits theaters and fans have reacted to that news. But that shouldn't have been the case, had "X-Men" been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Jackman would have continued as Wolverine and be part of "The Avengers."

A forum from NeoGAF showed that fans were sad to see Jackman retire from his iconic role, with a user even saying that he doesn't even know how the studio would be able to replace him. Others, though feel that had Marvel and Fox worked together, Jackman wouldn't be leaving.

The user said that being part of MCU is probably the only thing left that Jackman would have wanted to do. That sentiment, though, is actually echoed by Jackman himself.

According to a report from Rob Keyes of Screen Rant, had Twentieth Century Fox, the studio that owns the movie rights to the "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four" franchise, been able to work a deal with Marvel Entertainment about the possibility of a shared universe or crossover, Jackman would still be Wolverine. Marvel was able to work on a similar deal with Sony Pictures, which brought Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Keyes said that this was coming from Jackman himself when Fox let them bring a super fan during the press junket for "Logan" two weeks ago to watch the movie and talk to the actor. Jackman mentioned that the possibility of being part of "The Avengers" would have changed everything.

Jackman said that if that possibility would have been available, he would have "paused" about retiring from the role. He said he always loved the idea of Wolverine "within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man."

He concedes, though, that as of the moment, it's hard to figure out how to put the iconic mutant in the same universe as Bruce Banner and Tony Stark. But Jackman said that "Logan" wouldn't have been his last if they were there. Check out the trailer for "Logan," Jackman's last movie as Wolverine.
