Remember that funny song you watched on the internet that got stuck in your head for days and days? It was titled "Pen, Pineapple, Apple, Pen" and guess what? It just got a Guinness Book of World Record for the shortest song to break into the Billboard's Top 100 list.

It came as a shock to everyone even for the comedian who wrote the song. The Japanese performer Pikotaro, whose original name is Kazuhito Kosaka, was overwhelmed with the attention and award that his song has been receiving.

The 53-year old comedian never imagined for his song's success saying, "I'm surprised by this sudden popularity." According to Billboard, "Pen Pineapple Apple Pen" became a hit when popstar Justin Bieber tweeted it as his "favorite video on the internet". Pikotaro added, "Without Justin's impact, I think only four people would have showed up in this room."

This resulted to his video having over 67 million views on YouTube and 40,000 netizens lip-synching on his song while imitating his dance moves, with India being Pikotaro's favorite imitators. His song is also the first Japanese song to get into the US Billboard top 100 singles in 26 years.

Wearing his trademark yellow outfit with snake and leopard prints, Pikotaro performed a two-minute version of his 45-second song. Afterwards, he was all game in answering questions in a press conference in Tokyo.

Pikotaro shared in the conference that he came up with the song in his producer's house, Daimao Kosaka. While using a pen to write the song, he remembered Kosaka coming from an apple country. There was also an open can of pineapples on the table and then voila, "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen."

In an article found on Guinness World Records, he mentioned that he only spent ¥100,000 to produce the video in a rented studio. And announced that he will be making a new song and hinted that it's going to be about citrus fruits.
