Fireworks explosion in Comanche has left one dead while four others have been injured. The fireworks explosion in Comanche incident was reported to have happened in Central Texas high school on Jul. 4.

What was supposed to be a celebration for the Fourth of July, the fireworks explosion in Comanche became a funeral as the explosion left five victims.

According to Comanche police spokesman and fire Lt.  Marcus Nettleton, the fireworks explosion in Comanche occurred around 9 a.m. while the crew was setting up the tubes which contained the fireworks for Friday's yearly fireworks show.

Though Nettleton said that what triggered the fireworks explosion in Comanche on Thursday was not immediately clear, what was clear was that it took place in a baseball field adjacent to Comanche High School. Nettleton added that most of the explosives have been contained in a pickup truck when the fireworks explosion in Comanche went off, Click 2 Houston reports.

Nettleton also said that the victims from the fireworks explosion in Comanche were community members who had been helping with the fireworks show for more than 20 years. Members of the Kiwanis Club, one person died, while four other members have been hospitalized with reported serious injuries.

According to News 8, friends of the dead victim said the man killed from the fireworks explosion in Comanche was Dr. Russell Reynolds, Comanche's only chiropractor and licensed pyrotechnician. Thursday afternoon, people hung a black wreath outside of his office as they mourned his death.

Leslie Johnson, an employee of Dr. Reynolds said, 'He loved this community. He was instrumental in starting lights down on the square for the people of the town. He was always thinking about other people, and not himself.'

James Wilkerson, Publisher of the Comanche Chief newspaper went to the scene of the fireworks explosion in Comanche after the explosion. He said that when he arrived, two vehicles were already on fire while the trailer truck which contained the fireworks has been destroyed between the softball and baseball fields at the high school.

Because of the tragic event of the fireworks explosion in Comanche, the annual Fourth of July show at Comanche High School has been cancelled, though scheduled Friday.

According to the Associated Press, the fireworks show has been a long-standing tradition of the Kiwanis Club in Comanche. It has been running for the past 24 years, organized by the club to show 100 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

Meanwhile, the fireworks explosion in Comanche is still being investigated by the state fire marshal's office and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Executive Director Christine Perkins of the Comanche Chamber of Commerce said it is unfortunate that the fireworks explosion in Comanche happened during one of the largest shows in the region. The fireworks show reportedly draws 15,000 people from different metro areas such as Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin.

She said, 'We're still in shock. And definitely in a community our size, there will be some kind of ceremony" to recognize the victims.

Rachel Moreno, spokeswoman for the fire marshal's office said that the agency has a permit on file which authorized Friday's sparklers and unexpectedly turned out to be the fireworks explosion in Comanche.
