Aug 13, 2013 11:42 AM EDT

The new iPhone, which may be the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S has a rumored release date. Apple may unveil the  new iPhone on September 10.

According to All Things D, the Wall Street Journal-affiliated tech blog, the newest iPhone release date may be just around the corner. The blog has an excellent track record for accurately reporting inside Apple tips.

The new iPhone, which could be the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S, has an expected release date which would coincide with the schedule that Apple has established since the first iPhone was released in 2007. There is a new iPhone released each year and all the dates have occurred in the summer or fall. For instance, the  iPhone 4D came out in October 2011, the iPhone 5 came out in September 2012 and the first three versions came out in the summer.

Not much is known about the new iPhone at this time, but it will run on run iOS 7, the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, which was announced in June.

Among some other rumors, the new iPhone will likely be the iPhone 5S and will have the same design at the current iPhone 5 as the iPhone 4S had the same design at the iPhone 4.

It is also believed that Apple will release a cheaper version of the iPhone, which may only cost $99 and will come in five or six different colors. This cheaper version may be the iPhone 5C. Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller denied this rumor, but Apple has a tendency to misdirect customers when it comes to new products. With a cheaper iPhone, Apple may discontinue the earlier models.

There may be a larger iPhone model, with a 4.7-inch screen, a 5.7-inch screen, or both to match the big screens of the competitors that Samsung and HTC are releasing.

The new iPhone is rumored to have a fingerprint scanner which will be used for added security and other purposes. It will also have a faster processor, longer battery life, and an improved camera, which are common upgrades for new products.

Apple is also believed to be working on a smartwatch and a TV, but these products aren't expected to be released in September.

Samsung may try to outshine the Apple iPhone release by introducing the next Galaxy Note on September 4.
