Art In London Vending Machines Introduces Culture To The Masses

Jan 28, 2017 03:33 AM EST

Where do you usually see art other than in the galleries? The idea of having them confined in high-end, professional art spaces has let the masses feel unwelcome or left out.

But not anymore - the Vending Machine Art Gallery would want the perception out of the window their saleable art available in, well, vending machines. According to their site, the team said, "Selling art from a vending machine has a democratising effect."

"It creates an experience that is the same for everyone. Rich or poor, you stand in front of our vending machine and buy art in exactly the same way. No matter who you are, the experience is exactly the same. It makes it accessible. We want to make buying art the same as Andy Warhol described drinking Coca-Cola."

They partner with more English pubs for them to hang artworks on the wall and sell it via vending machines. "The Vending machine art gallery is based on simplicity. You look at the prints on the wall. You like a piece of art. You put money in the vending machine. You get your art," they said.

"If you see something and you like it you can buy it. You don't have to be an expert and know a lot about it. By taking the good art out of the gallery we introduce it to a wider audience that might have otherwise been too intimidated to show an interest."

Not only they're bringing art to the people, but they also want emerging artists to have a platform for their artworks and be discovered for themselves. "Not only that, we want to be a platform for new artists, we've had enough of the big names getting all attention. Give the new guys a chance to show you what they are made of," they said.
