NYPD Cops Indicted: Cop Responsible For Death Of Akai Gurley Indicted, First Step To Justice Claimed, Gurley's Family Rejoice Over Cop Charges
NYPD Cops Indicted - The cop responsible for the "accidental" death of Akai Gurley has been indicted. Peter Liang, the rookie NYPD cop, is set to face charges for manslaughter after shooting an unarmed man. Following the charges, Gurley's family has rejoiced over justice finally being served. Liang on the other hand is in complete shock.
After reports of cops gunning down unarmed men and continuous reports of police brutality, a report on NYPD cops indicted for their acts is one heck of a great news. For the family of Akai, the 28-year old man from Brooklyn, charges against his killer cop is certainly justice served.
For those who have yet to know about the NYPD cop indicted, Officer Liang had fired his revolver at an unlit stairwell at an East New York apartment building. This took place last Nov. 20 during a routine patrol. Liang had allegedly shot Akai by "accident."
The grand jury overseeing the case of Liang, the NYPD cop indicted, and Gurley however sees no "accident" in shooting. Liang is expected to surrender on the afternoon of Wednesday for charges on second-degree manslaughter, assault, criminally negligent homicide, two counts of official misconduct, and reckless endangerment. He will be arraigned at the Brooklyn Supreme Court.
As for the family of Akai, particularly his sister, are rejoicing over the news of the NYPD cop indicted. Akisha Pringle had posted a triumphant message on Facebook with the hash tag #wegotjustice. As for Akai's wife, Kimberly Ballinger, she too had nothing but great things to say about the NYPD rookie cop indicted.
"I am happy. I have faith in the Brooklyn district attorney and I thank him," says Ballinger, in a report by NYPost.
As for the NYPD cop indicted, Liang has reportedly been secluding himself from the world since the shooting. His neighbor claims that Liang has not been heading out since the "accident." The police union on the other hand have doled out support for Liang's actions and have called out due process as well.
