Following yesterday's incident at LaGuardia Airport, several flights are still being cancelled and delayed.
The runways were opened after a Southwest flight's nose gear failed when it landed at the airport at around 5 p.m. on Monday. However the incident is still impacting flights on Tuesday, USA Today reports.
According to flight-tracking service FlightStats, more than 130 flights were cancelled as of 9 a.m. ET and nearly 160 flights were delayed. This comes after more than 350 flights were cancelled on Monday due to the crash incident and poor weather.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, delays averaged about 90 minutes at the airport. Earlier in the morning, the FAA blamed the delays on a disabled aircraft, but later on, they switched the cause to poor visibility, which is often an issue for the New York airport.
To help accommodate customers, some airlines are allowing passengers to change their flights without having to pay a change flight fee. One of these airlines is Delta which said "temporary runway closure at New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) may impact travel to, from or through the New York City area." To assist customers, the airline is allowing those who were scheduled to fly on Monday or Tuesday to make a one-time change without paying a fee. This condition applies to LaGuardia airport, as well as JFK, Newark, White Plains and Newburgh airports.
Officials are still working to remove the Southwest flight off the runway on Tuesday morning. The landing gear had collapsed after Flight 345 from Nashville landed as the airport. When the landing gear collapsed, the aircraft skidded down the runway on its nose before coming to a stop in a grassy area.
Several were injured in the incident, but none of the injuries were life threatening. At least ten passengers were treated at the scene and six of those were taken to hospitals for minor injuries, Thomas Bosco, acting director of aviation for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees the area airports said according to USA Today. The six members of the flight crew were also taken to the hospital to be observed.
