VisitBritain which is a national tourism agency has released research which shows that £7.8 billion was spent by visitors to the UK who were enjoying British parks and gardens.

"A VisitBritain study identified that of the 31 million people who tend to visit Britain each year, around a third (11.1 million) enjoy a park or garden, with around 2.4 million aged between 25-34 opposed to just 1.4 million aged between 55-64," reported breakingtravelnes.com.

The figures exemplify that outdoor places like parks and gardens is one of the most popular activities for overseas guests to do when they are in UK. 36 percent of all visitors to the UK enjoy it and the percentage is only behind eating out, shopping and going to pubs. The findings show that people visiting the UK will spend outdoors in a park or garden more than they would go to a museum, art gallery or castle.

The findings show that the summer months are the most popular times to visit gardens and parks with July to September being the hub of action.

"The French, as our largest market, seem to prefer our parks and gardens over any other country with 1.25 million visits, spending £406 million in the process. Visitors from America are second in the table with 1.23 million visits, but they spend nearly triple the amount of the French during their visits, at around £1.1 billion," said VisitBritain. "Completing the top three are the Germans, 1.15 million were enchanted by our array of natural beauty and also spent more in the UK than top placed France at £629 million."

They also looked at the length of stay with showed that most visitors who are holidaying in Britain stay between one and three nights. The longer the stay, the more they are likely to visit a garden. 56 percent of those who stay for 15 or more nights will visit a garden or park during their stay.
