Popular fast food chain Wendy's may start offering a pretzel burger. USA Today reported that the burger will be a Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger.

The chain has plans to roll out the burger this summer or next fall and Wendy's hasn't given a specific timeline.

Spokesperson Denny Lynch said in an email to USA Today, "We're not sharing details of this sandwich today."

Analyst Mark Kalinowski from Janey Montgomery Scott wrote in a report according to The Huffington Post, "We do not know exactly when this product will go national; Wendy's confirms 'it will be part of our 2013 promotional calendar.' Our best guess is for a Q3 launch, and as such, we raise our Q3 same-store sales forecasts for both North American company-owned and North American franchised outlets by three percentage points, to +5.0%."

The new burger wil be made with a soft pretzel roll and could be a big deal for the fast food chain. Christopher Muller, professor of hospitality at Boston Unversity's School of Hospitality Management said to USA Today,"This could be a very, very big deal. I don't know why, but there's nothing else on the market quite like it."

He added that if the burger does well at Wendy's other chains could follow. Senior Editor at Nations Restaurant News said that pretzels are trendy right now and that they began at casual dining restaurants and have now made their way up to the fast food ladder. Blimpie has already rolled out sandwiches made from pretzel bread and throughout Europe pretzels are a very popular snack.

USA Today reported that as of recently, Wendy's has been focusing on premium bread. Earlier this year they rolled out a Grilled Chicken Flatbread sandwich for a limited time. The pretzel burger may also be offered for a limited time. The burger has already been tested in the Miami market and is expected to be at a premium price value.
