
The JR group of companies has announced prices for the Japan Rail Pass, which allows unlimited travel on trains in the country, will increase beginning October 1.
The price increase will affect most shinkansen or bullet train services.
Japan Rail Pass to Increase Prices
According to a report by Japan Today, the price of the adult seven-day pass for premium carriages will go up to 74,000 yen (approximately $464). The price, as of press time, is 70,000 yen (approximately $440).
The price of an adult seven-day pass for ordinary carriages, on the other hand will rise to 53,000 yen (approximately $333).
4-day passes for ordinary carriages will cost 84,000 yen (approximately $528) each, while the 21-day pass for ordinary carriages will cost 105,000 yen (approximately $660).
There Is Good News
Despite the upcoming price increase, there is some good news regarding the Japan Rail Pass, which is only available for foreign tourists.
According to Travel Weekly Asia, it is now easier for tourists to get their hands on the Japan Rail Pass through select JR East ticket vending machines that are equipped with passport readers.
However, it should be noted that only those who reserved through the official Japan Rail Pass reservation website can get their passes through this method.

- Haneda Airport Terminal 3 Station (Tokyo Monorail)
- Ikebukuro Station
- Narita Airport Station and Narita Airport Terminal 2 Station

- Ueno Station
