March is here, which means one thing for those heading to Japan for vacation—the cherry blossoms are here.

Known as sakura in Japanese, cherry blossoms never fail to enthrall both locals and tourists alike during peak season and have been immortalized in countless photos, videos, and social media posts.

With the sakura set to be in full bloom in Tokyo on March 19 for this year, here are five places to head to so that you can get that perfect view (and shot).

Chidorigafuchi

First on the list is an area near the Imperial Palace known as Chidorigafuchi. It is part of the Kitanomaru Park, which itself is part of the palace complex.

For a more romantic experience, you can rent a boat here in order to view the cherry blossoms. Boat renting costs a fee, but if you're happy to just be able to enter the park, there is no charge for it.

Meguro River

You've probably seen photos of the Meguro River during spring, and it's not hard at all to understand why the place is photographed so often.

Cherry blossom trees line the stretch of Meguro River, but if you want to see them beautifully arch over the river, head to the area near the Nakameguro station, according to Travely Notes.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

With over 1,000 sakura trees, the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a must-visit for anyone who wants to maximize their cherry blossom viewing.

There is an area dedicated for cherry blossom viewing, and the park itself is very spacious. However, do take note that there is an entrance fee that will be charged to be able to enter the park.

Sumida Park

Located in Asakusa, Sumida Park is another place where you can view cherry blossoms for free. It's also a good location for those who want to go on a picnic while admiring the sakura.

This is also where many enthusiasts take photos of cherry blossoms with the Tokyo Skytree in the background.

Ueno Park

While Ueno Park is best known to be the home of number of Tokyo's museums, it is also one of the best places to view the cherry blossoms during spring.

Not only is the view wonderful, but the whole experience is for free, unlike other locations that require an entrance fee.
