Here's What to Keep in Mind When Planning Your Visit to São Jorge Castle

There is no shortage of castles to visit when in Europe, which is a delight to anyone who's fascinated by them. In Portugal, specifically in Lisbon, one castle that is definitely a must is São Jorge Castle.

Also known as Castelo de São Jorge or St. George's Castle in English, it can be found in center of Lisbon with its main walls rising high up for protection. The remnants of the royal palace can be found within, along with the medieval castle, which is located on the highest point.

Schedule

The castle is open every day, except on January 1, May 1, December 24, December 25, and December 31. From March 1 to October 31, the castle is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. From November 1 to February 28/29, it is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ticket Prices

For adults, entry into São Jorge Castle will cost €15. However, those aged 13 to 25 years cost €7.50. Visitors aged 12 years old and below can enter the castle for free.

Your ticket gives you full access to São Jorge Castle and its gardens, as well as 15-minute guided tour that is available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Do take note that access to the museum is for free.
