A woman in Nevada is suing the online dating site, Match.com for nearly $10 million dollars after being attacked by a man she met online.

Fox4 News reported that the Mary Kay Beckman, 50, is suing the site after a man brutally attached her. She later learned that the man who attacked her confessed to killing another woman, Ann Simenson, who he also met on Match.com

Beckman said that she believes the site doesn't do enough to warn people of the potential risks. Marcc Saggeste, her lawyer said to The Huffington Post that the website gives "women and men into a false sense of security."

Match.com issued this statement in response:

"What happened to Mary Kay Beckman is horrible but this lawsuit is absurd. The many millions of people who have found love on Match.com and other online dating sites know how fulfilling it is. And while that doesn't make what happened in this case any less awful, this is about a sick, twisted individual with no prior criminal record, not an entire community of men and women looking to meet each other."

Match.com says in their terms of use that they don't do criminal background checks and are not liable to any injuries or emotional distress that might occur with online dating.

Match.com's terms of service states, "In no event shall Match.com be liable for any damages whatsoever, whether direct, indirect, general ,special, compenstaroy, consequential and/or incidental, arising out of or relating to the conduct of you or anyone else in connection with the use of the service, including without limitation, bodily injury, emotional distress, and/or any other damages resulting from communications or meetings with other registered users of this service or persons you meet through this service. You agree to take reasonable precautions in all interactions with other members of the service, particularly if you decide to meet offline or in person."

According to Fox 4 News, Beckman met the offender, Wade Ridley, 53, in September 2010 on the dating site but ended the relationship only a week later. Beckman claims that Ridley broke into her garage four months later and stabbed her 10 times with a  butcher knife. After the knife broke he stomped on her head before leaving the scene.

Ridley was charged in the case and sentenced to up to 70 years in prison. He later committed suicide in prison, reports CBS Las Vegas.

"Beckman is seeking $346,000 in economic damages, $5.4 million in noneconomic damages and $4.1 million in punitive damages," reported MSN.
