The iPhone 5 wasn't released too long ago but rumors are already starting to swirl around the iPhone 6 and many are saying it could have fingerprint technology.

Despite recently releasing the iPad mini and having a successful holiday season, Apple isn't doing so well right now as its stock price continues to fall.

Apple may need to release a new products to boost its business, which could mean an iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 may be released in the next year. However with the iPhone 5 already being so advanced, the next iPhone would need something that could blow its competition out of the park.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities told Apple Insider that along with mobile and network security company AuthenTec, Apple will create an advanced security method to access phones which includes fingerprinting. Apple  acquired AuthenTec in the past year and the security company, which is known for its fingerprint scanners recently developed new Smart Sensor technology.

Kuo believes Apple  be putting this technology to use and will include a fingerprint senor on the home button, which would replace having the enter number passcodes or usernames.

The addition of the sensor on the home button wouldn't take away from the iPhone's sleek design. It would also make security tighter and more convenient and it would be a feature that would be difficult for other devices such as Android and the Windows Phone to compete with as they have more than one button under the display.

Kuo thinks this feature would work well integrated with the new Passbook feature as well.

There is no evidence if this feature will actually be on the next iPhone but Kuo has made predictions for Apple in the past and he's rarely wrong. According to Apple Insider, he forecasted the complete line of recently released Apple products last fall. Kuo's explanation of Apple's connection with AuthenTec could mean that he isn't wrong about this one either.

Kuo thinks the iPhone 5 could get a redesign and the iPhone 5S could be released in the second half of 2013. He also sees an iPad 5 and a iPad mini 2 by the end of the year. He also thinks the Macbook Retina will be getting a new design as well.
