It looks like Apple will be introducing the new "iPad Mini 5" during the company's March event this year. However, there are also speculations that Apple will already be doing away with the iPad Mini and instead introduce something else.

According to a report from Macworld, the iPad Mini is already overdue for an upgrade, considering the "iPad Mini 4" debuted in September 2015, one year and six months to date. Though the current iPad Mini is still considered as one of the best 8-inch tablets, it's hard not to be curious about what new things Apple have for the iPad Mini 5.

The report said that the Japanese website Mac Otakara was the one who said that the iPad Mini will be included in the updated devices that Apple will be unveiling during its March 2017 event. With the "iPad Mini 4" being unveiled in September, it was expected Apple would the same to the "iPad Mini 5."

But since September came and went and no announcement was made, the next likely date would be in March 2017, during Apple's event. T3 also reported that they are expecting Apple to announce new iPad models during its March 2017 event.

However, it won't be the "iPad Mini 5," as they are expecting Apple to unveil the new 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro models. The report also said that the iPad Pro could also make it to the 7.9-inch model, meaning the new iPad Mini will actually be the iPad Mini Pro.

DigiTimes also said the same thing, as sources told them that Apple will be unveiling a 9.7-inch iPad and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The big difference is that the source mentioned to them a third variant, which is a 10.5-inch iPad.

The report adds that these products are expected to be mass-produced in the first quarter of 2017. It's hard to know at this point if all these announcements will happen this March, considering that Apple has yet to confirm the event.

But all signs are pointing to an announcement being made soon. Check out more rumors about the iPad Mini in the video below.
