It all started when comic creator for "Deadpool," Rob Liefeld, wanted Russell Crowe to star as Cable in the upcoming sequel in Fox. The actor has responded to this request, and fans are hoping that this means that the "Deadpool 2" offer is a go.

The writers of "Deadpool 2" promise that they are going to do a "faithful" take on Cable's origin story. Liefeld teased that the role of Cable is in extremely high demand as the casting process takes place.

Liefeld said to Crowe in a Twitter post, "@russellcrowe you should read for Cable in Deadpool and X-Force. Just sayin..." The actor then responded "I should read for it?" IGN reported. Liefeld apologized about his prior tweet saying that it was "poorly worded" and that he is a huge fan of Crowe's. Crow replied by saying: "I'm sure if @VancityReynolds [Ryan Reynolds] has any interest in that idea he'll find a way."

According to ComicBook, Crowe is being coy and teasing fans in this hot ticket role. A fan art depicted the Oscar-winning actor depicting him as Cable, and Crowe retweeted this piece with the caption: "Hmmm... @robertliefeld thoughts?" Leifeld responded that the artwork made by James Raiz is "freaking awesome."

It has been reported that filming for "Deadpool 2" is pushed back to June, and official casting announcements is yet to be made. But now that "Logan" has been released, 20th Century Fox can focus on Ryan Reynold's sequel. Fans speculate that a casting announcement will be made soon, and hopefully, Russell Crowe's name will be on it.

This sequel will also introduce Cable, who is a mutant soldier and son of X-Men leader Cyclops. It is said that Drew Goddard - the Netflix creator for "Daredevil" will work on the script.
