"Iron Fist" lead actor Finn Jones responded to the criticism thrown at the TV series for not casting an Asian actor to play Danny Rand. Jones said he understands where people are coming from, but adds Rand is not actually being portrayed as a "white savior."

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Jones said he knows where the frustrations of the people are coming from and he agrees that there's a need for diversity in TV and movies. "Right now we live in a culture and a world where we are very unequal in politics, in economics, and in culture," he said."

Jones adds that diversity, especially for Asian actors, is needed in the film and TV industry. But what frustrates him about the complaints is that people make a comment without actually trying to understand the story.

He said they're actually trying to address the issue people are concerned about through the story that they're trying to tell. He adds that the character Danny Rand is not actually a "white savior."

"Danny Rand can hardly save himself, let alone an entire race of people," he said. Jones said the character actually suffered through a lot and is trying his hardest to regain his identity and sanity back.

Jones adds that Marvel has actually made K'un Lun, the city Iron Fist lives in the comics, more diverse than what was portrayed. The mystic city was Asian in the comics, but in the TV show, other races, like Europeans, South Americans, and so on are seen living in the city.

Becky Fuller of Screen Rant agrees with Jones that the industry does need more diversity. But Marvel Netflix shows have actually been doing a good job in diversifying its cast.

She adds that diversity doesn't necessarily mean also that Marvel would need to alter the origins of characters just to show they are being diverse. Season 1 of "Iron Fist" is set to premiere on March 17, 2017. Check out the trailer below.
