Sega reportedly is working on "Shenmue HD Remaster." The latest project would be available to PC via Steam.

The highly anticipated "Shenmue 3" will be released soon. It would be great to play the original "Shenmue" games in magnificently high definition version. A speculation recently surfaced about a "Shenmue HD Remaster" that is currently in development. In addition, reportedly, it has a release window scheduled for later part of 2017.

Rice Digital reported that a source close to Atlus USA has revealed to them that Sega is planning to release a "Shenmue HD remaster" of the first two Shenmue games. This comes as an interesting news for fans, as at present the only way to play the games are on Dreamcast and the original Xbox. The site added that both games, Episodes 1 & 2, might be released together rather than separately. Furthermore, they are allegedly being geared up for launch to pave the way to "Shenmue 3," which could possibly get a 2018 release. It can be recalled that in 2016, Sega announced that it was looking into remastering the original "Shenmue" games and even registered a ShenmueHD.com.

In 2002, "Shenmue 2" was released in North America. Since E3 2015, several gamers have become interested by the series, but playing the original games has been difficult because of limited availability. The HD Remaster would greatly serve the upcoming Shenmue 3 by helping gamers catch up on the story.

Interestingly, the source could not confirm if the Shenmue HD Remaster would be making its way to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The source did say with confidence that it would be coming to PC via Steam.

Since its announcement, not much has been revealed about Shenmue 3. It's currently slated to come out in December 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and PC, but considering the development team is relatively small, it's possible that the project could be pushed into 2018, to the dismay of fans.
