Original "NVIDIA SHIELD TV" owners, your SHIELD Experience 5.0 update is here. The company is now in the process of rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update, NVIDIA has confirmed this already.

PhoneDog said that SHIELD Experience 5.0 is a big update since it brings with it Android 7.0 Nougat - not to mention new features and improvements. This major update for the "NVIDIA SHIELD TV (2015)" would give owners many of the same features included in the "SHIELD TV (2017)" - which only means you may not need to upgrade to a new hardware.

According to Android Headlines, the details of the update is quiet extensive. Talking about NVIDIA-specific stuff, the Android 7.0 Nougat will give users instant access to Amazon Video - a significant benefit to current Amazon Prime members. It also has the NFL app, the new Twitter for TV app, Comedy Central, Vimeo and Viki.

A big addition to the SHIELD Experience 5.0 update is that it supports 4K HDR video, which is a big plus for the streaming box. NVIDIA also announced that there will be a bunch of new games coming, like "For Honor", "Watch Dogs 2", and "Assassin's Creed Syndicate".  In addition, game like "Tomb Raider", "Shadowgun Legends", and the recently released "The Witness" can now be bought from the store.  

Also, this update will bring the new GameStream feature which allows users to stream local games from your PC in 4K, a GeForce Now performance update, and a new NVIDIA Games application. To update the "SHIELD TV" to SHIELD Experience 5.0, you can either wait for the unit to receive a push notification for the update or do it manually. For manual update, go to Settings > Device > About > System Upgrade. Meanwhile, NVIDIA confirmed that in the future, the "2015 SHIELD TV" will be getting Google Assistant.
