"Shadowhunters" is based on a book series by Cassandra Clare titled "The Mortal Instruments." But from time to time, the storyline deviates from the book. The biggest leap away from the book happened in "Day of Wrath," the recently concluded episode.

Buddy TV reported that Jocelyn Fray got killed and her death was never expected to happen by the viewers. Lead star Katherine McNamara (Clary Fray) and showrunners Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin shared about the rationale behind the shocking twist.

McNamara said, "Right at the point where Clary and Jocelyn have finally settled everything and they're starting to reconnect and they're finally starting to form a real relationship, Jocelyn dies." This was not expected of her. Jocelyn Fray is her mother and when she read the script where she will be killed off, she was shocked.

She shared that when she knew Jocelyn will be killed, she was surprised and wondered what will happen with her character. The young actress has not seen it coming and she did not understand it at first.

Of course, the cast and crew of "Shadowhunters" will miss her as she has been a big part of the show. After realizing what the plan about her character, it was then the time she realized, her death is a positive thing.

The 21-year-old actress said that the show is unpredictable because of its constant deviation from the book. But it makes the show interesting and exciting. Viewers have always something to look forward to.

Todd Slavkin explained that in order for Clary to mature, she has to experience lots of hardships in life. He added that they are "shaking things up." But he assured that the story will be the same and it is going to be more intense.

There have been inquiries if Jocelyn will reappear in some episodes as a returning dead person. Showbiz Junkies reported that the episode to be aired on January 30 might give some answers. It is titled "Dust and Shadows." "Shadowhunters" season 2 airs every Monday at 8/7c on Freeform.
