Sanrio has re-introduced a character that can go opposite Hello Kitty named Aggretsuko or Aggressive Retsuko. She is a more relatable character compared to other cutesy characters.

The character started from a series of 1-minute anime shorts in Japan from April 2016. Since then, fans have been adding subtitles to the shorts, and the series translated as "Aggressive Retsuko".

Game Spot mentions that the main character was introduced as a 25-year-old female red panda that was single, a Scorpio with a blood type A. She works as an office associate at an accounting department from her dream company.

A previous report from Crunchyroll also mentioned that the character was created due to a poll in 2015. Fans wanted an office lady with an office theme as this was common in most anime shows.

On most days, she is forced to do seemingly impossible tasks from her superiors. Despite her cute appearance, she usually thinks of death metal songs with lyrics that relates to her situation. She lets off steam by drinking at a bar and singing karaoke alone.

Unlike other Sanrio characters, she is more relatable due to her age, her work and her status. Fans started to post tweets with Aggretsuko rather than Retsuko, which was a fusion of the title.

She is also joined by the likes of Eaglette, a secretary to the president, Ape Admin, the kind Section Administrator. Her boss is named Buffalo Boss who loves to push work to others, a noisy workmate who is a hippo named Hippatricia and other quirky characters.

Polygon reported that there is plenty of merchandise available in the market such as pen cases, ball point pens and other office related items. If Hello Kitty is for kids or pre-schoolers, Aggretsuko is for office-workers or for everybody who feels the need to unwind after a stressful and mundane day at work.
