The United States' president-elect Donald Trump selected Ben Carson as the secretary of the United States' Department of Housing and Urban Development during his term. Ben Carson is a 65- year old man who was once a neurosurgeon is now appointed to be the HUD secretary.

According to reports from ABC News and NY Times, Carson said in an interview with Washington Post last month that he preferred to work from the outside and not from the inside. However, recently, Carson, once being a rival of Trump's on the GOP nomination, was honored to accept the president-elect's offer of the HUD secretary position. Carson said, "I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly by strengthening communities that are most in need." As a HUD secretary, it is his duty to lead the government in providing assistance for low-income families in the US regarding their housing and rentals.

According to Trump, "Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities and families within those communities." He also added: "We have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic revival, very much including our inner cities." Despite having no experience regarding housing, Carson was said to have stayed at a public house when he was young. "I grew up in the inner city and have spent a lot of time there, and have dealt with a lot of patients from that area and recognized that we cannot have a strong nation if we have weak inner cities." Carson said.

Being appointed in the position is a great challenge for Carson. Helping out five million families in the US may not be easy but Carson is quite ready to take on his position. As said by Carson, "We have much work to do in enhancing every aspect of our nation and ensuring that our nation's housing needs are met."
