The live-action Hollywood version of the famous Japanese media franchise, Masamune Shirow's ''Ghost in the Shell'' will arrive at the movie theaters next year, according to Kotaku.

According to the Anime News Network, Nerdist, a media news website, interviewed actress Scarlett Johansson who will be acting the role of The Major, ''Ghost in the Shell's'' main character.

"One thing that will be very different, probably, is we're not making the Frank Miller world where those graphic novels come to life. We have kind of the iconic iconography of the manga and stuff, but I think people will be surprised at the gritty kind of realness of this. For a person that doesn't have a heart, it has a lot of heart, I think. The way that we're telling it." said Johansson while talking about the upcoming movie.

Games and entertainment Media Company IGN also interviewed the movie's executive producer Michael Costigan and producer Avi Arad on how will the anime and the manga's story will be adapted in film.

According to them, the film involves mixed elements from "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" and "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig". The whole story of the film was inspired by the episode 'Affection' from "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig", according to Arad.

"Hopefully the film feels like the anime" Arad commented about the film's story. "I feel like such a geek making this movie because we are really bringing it to life so faithfully" said executive producer Costigan during the interview. "We are bringing things we saw in the anime to the fore in live action so I'm very excited for the fans."

The upcoming film caused a lot of commotions by the fans, mainly because of the casting. Some of the franchise's fans would prefer a Japanese actress to play The Major's role, even though several Japanese people didn't mind that Johansson would play the role.
