Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev inaugurated a bridge connecting Vladivostok to Russky Island on Monday. 

The Prime Minister praised workers for completion of the structure which links 5,000 residents to the mainland.

"I am certain it will serve a great number of people who live in Vladivostok and on Russky Island, and those who come as tourists." He told reporters during the opening ceremony. "It is just a beautiful structure, embodying the genius of engineering."

The bridge, constructed to serve guests of the upcoming APEC summit in September, is now open on a trial basis. The bridge reportedly is worth about 33.9 billion rubles of federal money. The construction appeared in the news after a road built to connect with the bridge was partially destroyed by storms.

The 1,104 meter-long bridge, will be opened for public use and city transport starting on Aug. 1 will be one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world.

Vladivostok is holding APEC summit in Sept. and is under huge renovations and construction now. The city is full of century-old buildings, beautiful oak woods and many other natural spot that attracts a large number of tourists from around the world.
