Man stole $2700 worth meat from three Safeway grocery stores located in Portland, Ore., and now police have arrested the man through evidence from video footage of the man walking out of the stores with the meat. The suspect in the case of the man stole $2700 worth meat was identified as 53-year old Barry Trenell Sanders.

According to KOIN, police have said that in most of the thefts where the man stole $2700 worth meat, he was found concealing the meat inside a shopping cart. He also reportedly leaves the stores without paying for the meat.

Since virtually all stores nowadays are using sophisticated surveillance cameras to monitor their customers, Sanders was easily spotted, according to eCanadaNow.

The investigation of the incidents where man stole $2700 worth meat was conducted by Safeway Loss Prevention. According to court documents, the investigation began on Jul. 22, 2014 and ended on Aug. 8.

According to police, they already have evidence of at least 13 separate incidents in which collectedly, the man stole $2700 worth meat between July and August.

eCanadaNow reports that video cameras were able to catch the crime as the man stole $2700 worth meat, placing assorted packages from the meat department into his shopping cart totalling 13 times in a 60-day period during the summer. Afterwards, he casually leaves the stores without paying for the meat.

According to KOIN, police identified the stores where the man stole $2700 worth meat as located at the Safeway on Northeast Broadway, North Ivanhoe and Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The video from Safeway is reportedly able to "clearly identify" the man who stole $2700 worth meat as Sanders in each occasion, said court documents.

Fox News reports that Sanders has been arrested since and on Tuesday, he was charged in Multnomah County Circuit Court with two counts of first-degree theft. On Aug. 12, he was taken into custody on a probation violation. Charges against him were filed by the district attorney's office.

Though he hasn't entered a plea as of the moment, he is expected to return to court on Wednesday, Aug. 27, accompanied by a lawyer, according to the Associated Press.

Court documents state that the total loss to Safeway in the case of man stole $2700 worth meat is $2,690.09.

Officials from the three Safeway supermarket stores have not commented on the current issue.

In the meantime, it is still unknown whether Sanders stole the meat for personal use or if he had accomplices waiting to resell the meat to other customers.

Health and beauty products are reportedly the most common target of retail stores' shoplifters, but as the economy affects more consumers, eCanadaNow reports an increase in store thefts of fresh items such as meats, cheeses and produce.
