Starbucks College Achievement Plan will allow the education of Starbucks employees to be paid for by the Seattle company. The coffee giant is sharing their blessings to their baristas through a bargain on an online college degree. Starbucks College Achievement Plan will certainly be of help thousands not only to their current employees but to future generations of employees to come.

According to The Associated Press, the Starbucks College Achievement Plan has been made possible as the coffee giant partnered up with Arizona State University. The university will reportedly be making an undergraduate education available with a steep discount for 135,000 U.S. employees working at least 20 hours a week for the company. Not only will Starbucks workers be allowed to choose from over 40 educational programs with the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, but after earning their degrees, workers won't need to work for Starbucks any longer.

ABC News reports that there are different systems for the college years. For freshman and sophomore applied to the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, the student's tuition will greatly be reduced with the Starbucks scholarship. For junior and senior years in college, Starbucks would reportedly be reimbursing anything that a student pays out of pocket.

The plan of Starbucks College Achievement Plan is set to be announced by CEO Howard Schultz at the Times Center in New York City. The announcement will reportedly be attended by Education Secretary Arne Duncan will be in attendance together with 340 Starbucks employees and their families.

It is still unknown how many workers will apply for the Starbucks College Achievement Plan and how much the program will cost. According to The Wall Street Journal, the online degree tuition at ASU costs around $10,000 a year, depending on the program. Meanwhile, it is speculated that most Starbucks workers would more likely go for a Pell grant, which is worth up to $5,730.

Apart from the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, the company also has another program which reimburses up to $1,000 a year at City University of Seattle or at Strayer University for their employees. This reimbursement program will be phased out by 2015, says the company, as the new one is much more generous and beneficial for the workers.

Cliff Burrows, the head of the Americas for Starbucks has expressed his opinion on the Starbucks College Achievement Plan and stated that he is hoping other companies to follow suit. He added that the company is planning on taking the program overseas. Burrows said, "Around the globe the cost of education is a big issue and I'm sure we'll have many discussions about what can be done in other countries."

Starbucks College Achievement Plan is also available to Starbucks' other chains, which incldudes Teavana tea shops and Seattle's Best.
