President Trump Just Signed A New Executive Order, This Time Targeting Foreign Work Visas

A new executive order was signed by Trump on Tuesday during his trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin. His order, entitled "Buy America, Hire American" is meant to target the controversial H-1B visa program where he asked several federal agencies to review and overhaul some of its components.

Since the early days of Trump's campaign, he has been vocal about his stance on the visa program, constantly saying that it's a threat to the American labor force. The H-1B visa program allots temporary visa to foreign workers with specialized skills to fill in some gaps in the working industry, mostly in IT and Engineering, according to Business Insider. But critics of the program said it's a trick by companies to hire cheap, foreign workers instead of hiring Americans to do the job.

"The buy and hire American order, I'm about to sign, will help protect workers and students like those of you in the audience today," said Trump through ABC News. "This historic action declares that the policy of our government is to progressively promote and use American-made goods and to ensure that American labor is hired to do the job."

But Trump's critics such as Hillary Clinton have voiced out Trump's hypocrisy toward the issue as his own company, the Trump Organization, regularly used existing visa waiver laws in order to fill some jobs on his properties like Such as Trump Winery and Mar-a-Lago. Hillary Clinton also pointed out the manufacturing of Trump-branded products overseas to show his pretentious stance on promoting domestic industry.

The country that's going to be affected the most by this new order is India, and several politicians and business leaders have already voiced out their concerns toward the new restrictions of the program that are going take place. India's National Association of Software and Services even told the Times that the H-1B visa program only exists because the US is constantly short on high-skilled IT talent.
