Canada Holds Frozen Hair Competition

Feb 20, 2017 03:07 AM EST

It's the dead of winter in Canada, but the country is not in shortage of any fun. The Takhini Hot Springs holds its annual frozen hair competition every February where people can enjoy warm waters coupled with the cold air to create icy updos.

The International Hair Freezing Competition is held at Yukon, Canada at Sourdough Rendezvous to celebrate the history of the federal territory. All people have to do is to take a dip in its waters and get the most amazing, craziest frozen hair they can have.

If you're asking how is that possible, science explains that, first, the temperature outside must be around negative 20 for the hair to get a good freeze. People, then should dip in the hot springs and lift their heads out of the water. The sudden change of temperature will freeze and mold the hair in the craziest styles you can imagine.

The freezing might be slow, but expect to be entirely frozen over, including your eyelashes, eyebrows, and mustaches for men. Expect also to style your own crazy do! If you let the hair completely frozen, you will see that it'll turn into white with ice.

The Takhini Hot Pools happily say on their website that your hair won't "break or snap off" even though being iced all over. Afterward, people can just take a photo and send it either to the establishment's concierge, their Facebook page, or through email.

For your hair to unfreeze, just dunk your head in the water, and the ice will melt away. You will have to wait until March for the announcement of winners and get all the good prizes like 30 Soak Membership, 12 Punch Pass and three complimentary Day Passes.

Of course, monetary prizes will be given away with the first placer having $750, the second with $200 and the third winner with $100. Management at the hot springs says the contest is open all winter long so, anyone there at the springs during cold months can just snap a photo of their crazy hair.

If you want to get into a fit of inspiration, one can see photos of other participants here. Any queries about the competition should be sent at manager@takhinihotsprings.com.
