George Clooney Wife Amal Alamuddin Honors For Human Rights Work Questioned

Jan 23, 2017 07:24 AM EST

Human rights lawyer and wife of high-caliber actor George Clooney was honored for her human rights works. However, many were questioning the honors bestowed.

Alamuddin, 38, was honored at the Women of Impact dinner hosted by New York-based Tina Brown. The citation is a prestigious one that elevated the barrister as one of the world's most influential women. She has counseled several high-profile and controversial cases.

Amanda Platell of Daily Mail wrote a question as to why Clooney's wife was given honors for merely doing her occupation as a lawyer. Admittedly, she wrote that the Lebanese-British lawyer has rendered services pro-bono for selected clients but believes that there are more women out in the world who deserve true honors.

The author added that marrying the opulent George Clooney might have made her qualified for the award. Indeed, Alamuddin's marriage to the "Hail! Cesar" star made her world famous. Her daily activities have been publicized, her face frequents covers of magazines, and her name is always attached to the famous name of her husband.

She came to the Davos event with her debonaire husband wearing an expensive Chanel dress that costs £9,875. She even splurges more on her designer clothes while attending her human rights court hearings.

When Alamuddin married Clooney in 2014, it was the start of her extremely high-end lifestyle. The wedding alone cost the actor £3.5 million which was held in Venice, Austria as reported by People. She paraded in different costumes aside from her costly wedding gown. The wedding photos were seen all over the world.

Clooney, 55, was reportedly reacting to her lavish lifestyle. This has been the speculations that were linked to the two contemplating divorce. However, no confirmation from the actor was sought.

The tall-and-slim humanitarian lawyer was honored together with her client U.N. Ambassador Nadia Murad who was nominated for the Nobel Prize award. Was George Clooney Wife Amal Alamuddin not deserving to receive the Women of Impact citation?
