"Narcos" Season 3 News, Updates And Spoilers: Cali Cartel Takes The Center Stage

Sep 28, 2016 06:34 PM EDT

A short teaser trailer of "Narcos" Season 3 has been released and reportedly, the Cali Cartel will take over in the upcoming season to be aired in 2017.

Report on iTechPost says that the notable gang has made their introduction in season two of the series consisting of Gilberto Orejuela (Damian Alcazar) and Miguel Rodriguez (Fransisco Denis) with Helmer "Pancho" Herrera (Alberto Ammann). Added member of the group, Jose "Chepe" Santacruz-Londono, is anticipated to be introduced in "Narcos" Season 3.

Eric Newman, executive producer, compared Pablo Escobar and the Cali Cartel's process in operating their drug business.

"Unlike Escobar, who had positioned himself as an outlaw, Cali was very much a part of the system. They had bought their way in and they enjoyed a different kind of protection than Pablo did. Pablo was protected by the people who loved him and Cali was protected by a political and economic system that they had rather ingeniously built," he said.

"Narcos" Season 3 is believed to be more political and less vicious than season two. Moreover, the Cali Cartel's arc is likely to be more covered in one season only since the gang's drug movement was taken down in two years.

Given with reports, this indicates the rise of the Mexican cartel in the season four.

When Newman was asked about the future seasons of the show, he said, "We purposely did not call the show Pablo Escobar or Medellin. In the same way that Osama Bin Laden begets ISIS, Medellin begets Cali begets the Mexican Cartels. Though they existed at the same time, Cali really got the Mexicans into cocaine, which proved to be a much better business than heroin."

Meanwhile, there are speculations that Jose Peña (Pedro Pascal) is possible to return in "Narcos" Season 3. In season two, DEA assigned Peña in Escobar's case but, the bureau pulled him back even before the drug kingpin was seized.
