It has been almost a year since Niantic released "Pokemon GO" that took the world by storm, but the game still stands alone without any competition that can give it a run for its money. The recently concluded Eggstravaganza Event also showed that Niantic is ready for its summer anniversary.

According to a report from Epicstream, the Easter event is not considered as one of Niantic's holiday event to date. But it has somehow done its job in getting more players to play the game.

The report said that Niantic Labs released a data on Facebook that said a total of 87 million eggs were collectively hatched by "Pokemon GO" players during the Eggstravaganza event. The released data showed that Niantic has again seen a big bump when it comes to players of its popular game.

This is a big thing, considering that Egg hatching is one of the least favorites of "Pokemon GO" players, so for Niantic to get that much egg hatched, showed how more players are playing the game every time "Pokemon GO" has an event.

Though Niantic has yet to announce what they have in store for the summer, when "Pokemon GO" celebrates its anniversary, the company did say they have something big planned for it. But it's not only the anniversary that Niantic should celebrate, the fact that up to now it still doesn't have any competition should also be celebrated.

Forbes reports that it's not that easy to build a large scale competitor to "Pokemon GO," considering that ex-Google Map employees were the ones who built it. The founders have spent years laying down the groundwork for the game with "Ingress," Niantic's first AR game.

The report said that there's no other company that has a similar background to Niantic, which is why coming up with a similar game that can compete is hard. This is also why when summer rolls out, Niantic will likely come out with a Summer Anniversary event that will enable "Pokemon GO" to increase its popularity once again.
