There's no better way to enjoy the great outdoors than to go on camping trips. It's the perfect opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. If you're planning to go on one, here are a few basic tips for beginners.

When To Camp?

Weekends are usually the best times to camp so you can have more time to prepare and settle down once you arrive at your destination. However, it's not always the case because you can also do it on weekdays. Look for the nearest campsites, travel late in the afternoon, camp and come back home early in the morning.

Pack Appropriately

The things that you need to bring would always depend on your destination and the length of your stay. If you're only camping out for a day, don't overpack and just bring the necessary things. Also, avoid taking sentimental stuff with you because not only would they get lost but they also take up space.

Lighting

It's already given that campfires are your main source of lighting but you can't really keep it on all throughout the night. According to National Geographic, it's best to have at least two or three lighting options so you can keep your campsite lighted up and have that inviting feeling.

Bring All The Gadgets

No, it's not that kind of gadgets like video games and tablets but it's those important ones that you're really going to need. Make sure that you bring stuff like emergency light, batteries, radios, phones and lanterns.

Pick A Good Spot

According to Greatist, always find a good place to set up a camp, one that's close to the road but at the same time close to nature. Ask around if the area is home to a few wild animals so you'd know if the location that you picked is the best one. You don't want to have close encounters with bears in the middle of the night, right?

Camping is really great if done spontaneously because you get to have that thrill and adventure that you've always been looking for. However, planning is still key so you can survive the great outdoors.
