President Donald Trump has officially announced that he will be skipping the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner this year. The Head of State made the announcement via his personal Twitter account, Sunday morning.

The rift between Trump and the media continues with the former suddenly revealing that he has no plans of attending the annual event hosted by the White House for all the media organizations who cover the president and his administration. The event, which is scheduled to be held on April 29 will mark the first time that the leader of the nation will be absent from the celebration since former president Calvin Coolidge started the tradition of joining the festivities way back in 1924. The affair in itself has been going on for 103 years, since 1914.

In reaction to the 70-year-old President's latest bombshell, the White House Correspondents' Association released a statement acknowledging Trump's refusal to participate in the annual gathering. The official press release was subsequently posted on the organization's website.

"The White House Correspondents' Association looks forward to having its annual dinner on April 29. The WHCA takes note of President Donald Trump's announcement on Twitter that he does not plan to attend the dinner, which has been and will continue to be a celebration of the First Amendment and the important role played by an independent news media in a healthy republic," it read. The statement ended on a bright note saying that the organizers are excited for the gathering that endeavors to continue the long tradition of giving tribute to all the journalists who relentlessly covered the White House in the past year.

Following Trump's announcement, celebrities and other media people were quick to get on their own Twitter accounts to react to this latest development. Most of them mocked the businessman-turned-politician for his behavior and condemned his unreasonable decision.

CNN's Brian Stelter, in particular, shared that one of their viewers came up with the idea of inviting actor Alec Baldwin instead to stand in for Trump. Baldwin has been regularly appearing on "Saturday Night Live" as a Trump impersonator.
