An Espanola police station ghost was spotted by a police officer while it was "floating" on the facility's CCTV footage. Now, the footage has many officers freaking out as they believe the alleged Espanola police station ghost could have something to do with some unsolved murders in the Espanola area in New Mexico.

KOAT reported on Sept. 25 that the entity may not only be responsible for some unsolved murders, police officers also believe that Espanola's police station ghost could be the reason why  they have been seeing unexplained images and hearing strange noises in the lobby of the police station.

According to the Huffington Post, the station is set up with state-of-the-art gates and alarms specially made for shutting out intruders. Apparently, these modern equipment aren't enough to keep out ghostly intruders.

The Espanola police station ghost was spotted by an Officer Karl Romero on Saturday night. He was reportedly keeping guard on surveillance cameras around the station when he saw the strange figure in the sally port, or secured entryway.

Romero told KOAT TV, "At first I thought it was a podilla -- a fly or moth -- then I saw the legs ... and it was a human. But not a real human. No, a ghost."

The alleged Espanola police station ghost-like figure was shown as a blurry bright, white figure walking across the gated are in the CCTV footage.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, Romero reported the spooky phenomenon to his superiors, who, like the officer, believed that the bizarre form was indeed an Espanola police station ghost.

The Examiner reports that Romero told his superiors the figure was walking across the lot right through the cages and the gate without triggering any alarm. Romero's superiors investigated the area, but they could not find the "blurry bright, white figure."

Romero said, "I do believe in ghosts. I don't know (what exactly was on the video), but we've had some unsolved murders in the area."

He added however, that the police station is not built atop an Indian burial ground.

He also said that there would be no way to go in or out of the secured station without sounding the alarms on the gates.

Apparently, it wasn't only Romero who is being "haunted" by the Espanola police station ghost. Other detectives have reported hearing strange noises and seeing unexplained images in the lobby of the building too.

According to Metro, other officers have had spooky experiences while working at the station too.

Romero said, "A lot of officers have seen certain things. Some officers have felt someone breathing down their necks as they're working in the briefing room."

However, while there are believers, there are also critics. Bryan Bonner, a paranormal investigator of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society said he wasn't impressed by the Espanola police station ghost footage.

He told HuffPost via email, "That has to be one of the worst videos that I have seen. The image appears to have been caused by a small insect (possibly a small spider) crawling on the plastic case that houses the lens."

Bonner added that though the Espanola police station ghost sighting may seem credible because of police officers reporting about it, they do not have the proper training in analyzing "ghost" videos.

The paranormal expert said, "Because of that they fall back on the same biases as most people and jump the the conclusion that if they cannot explain it it has to be a ghost, when it is very easy to explain."

According to the Examiner, the city of Espanola is composed of around 10,000 people. Situated in the heart of northern New Mexico, the city prides itself of merging three cultures -- the Tewa (Native Americans), Hispanic, and Anglo, according the Espanola's website.

As of the current moment, the Espanola police station ghost phenomenon remains a mystery. Despite the police officers' claims, it is worth noting that the station is not built on an ancient burial ground. No prisoners have also died in the area.
