Man overboard! a passenger has gone missing from a cruise on Sunday. The U.S. Coast Guard spent the day searching the waters between the Bahamas and South Florida while trying to find the missing man.

According to Coast Guard spokeswoman Sabrina Laberdesque, the passenger is thought to have gone overboard early on Sunday in waters about 27 miles east of Delray Beach in Florida, the Associated Press reports.

The man was on Celebration Cruise Line's Bahamas Celebration. He was reported missing at around 2 a.m. as the ship was heading back to its home port in Florida. The ship owned by Fort Lauderdale's Celebration Cruise Line had left from Grand Bahama on Saturday night.

The identity of the man and specific details have not been released by the cruise line.

Once the man was reported missing, the ship's crew immediately turned the ship around to start searching for him.

"We are very disappointed that something like this occurred," Celebration Cruise Line spokesman Glenn Ryerson told AP.

Although it is rare, people going overboard on cruise ships is not unheard of. In January, a man went missing from a Royal Caribbean ship. This was just a few days after someone else jumped off a Royal Caribbean ship. In November, a lady jumped off a Princess cruise ship.

This isn't the first time someone went missing from the Bahamas Celebration ship either. In 2012 a 47-year-old woman from Canada went missing as the ship was returning to Florida. She was never found.
The Bahamas Celebration has been sailing since 2009. It is a six-deck ship that can carry 1,250 passengers. It makes two-night sailing to the Bahamas from Florida.
