A Los Angeles earthquake shook California on Monday. The shallow, 4.4 magnitude quake was based five miles from Westwood. There doesn't seem to be any reports of injuries or serious damage.

The quake, which occurred at 6:25 a.m. and at a depth of 5.0 miles, was felt over a large part of Southern California and was even felt in the Westside and Valley. Some travel delays were expected due to the quake, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The quake was thought to be a 4.7 at first, but the USGS downgraded it to a 4.4. According to a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, there were no reports of damage or injuries. The LAFD released a statement saying it is in "earthquake emergency mode as crews survey our City by ground and air; There are NO reports yet of any quake related injuries or damage." The police department also confirmed this.

Some reported to the USGS that they felt the quake as far east as Perris and as far south as San Clemente. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada , there were no reports of problems on the roads due to the earthquake. County Fire Supervisor Michael Pittman also confirmed that there was no damage, saying "We did our initial survey and it was felt only. No reports of any damage." According to Joe Ramallo of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, there were no reports of water main breaks or power outages following the quake as of 6:45 a.m. but crews are paying close attention to it and are conducting safety checks.

Residents said the quake wasn't too alarming. Stacey Dirks, owners of a bagel store in Westwood told the Times that "it just felt like a sudden shake, it was just like rapid and quick." She added that none of the bagels fell and everything stayed in place.

The LA Times reports that the quake was centered two miles north of Sherman Oaks. The USGS reports that the epicenter was six miles from Beverly Hills and seven miles from Universal City and Santa Monica. There have been no earthquakes over the past 10 days with a magnitude greater than 3.0 in the area.
