With all the signs and warnings that promote the bad effects of smoking, everybody in the world already know that smoking, well, can kill. It causes lung diseases and cancer, it's bad for your skin and teeth plus, it makes you look older.

We don't need any more reasons to not get into it or stop it altogether, but a small new study in Universidade Estadual de Londrina in Brazil shows that smoking also kills a person's motivation to be active.

Researchers from the University in Brazil found that smokers are more prone to be physically inactive, with less motivation to be physically active, than their non-smokers.

The study was published in the journal Respirology and it included 60 smokers and 50 non-smokers. The participants were made to wear a pedometer for at least 12 hours a day for six days in order to see how much they walked each day.

A researcher from the study named Dr. Karina Furlanetto explained in a statement, "Besides presenting poorer lung function, exercise capacity, quality of life and symptoms of anxiety and depression, smokers also walked less than non-smokers in daily life."

And to think that exercising more can actually help smokers to quit. According to a 2012 review of studies in the journal Addiction, smoking decreases cravings for nicotine. If the act of smoking suppresses a person's drive to exercise, it's much more difficult to quit knowing this.

In the new study by Universidade Estadual de Londrina, the participants were also asked to rate their own quality of life with regard to health. It revealed that smokers were more likely than non-smokers to say they felt tired and unmotivated to exercise more.

In addition, a recent study by the journal Addiction Biology also showed that smokers are less likely to get enough sleep each night, compared with non-smokers.

All the more reasons now to finally quit that bad habit and kiss it goodbye.
