There's a new definition of a wingman and this time it's in app form. A new app called Wingman helps connect passengers "with attractive people on your flight, all before you touch down."

The app is currently in its beta stage and isn't in the iTunes story yet, but according to the Daily Beast, creator Gabe Whaley, 24, says development is well underway. The app is similar to Tinder, but only applies to passengers on your flight. Users can scroll through photos of passengers on their flight and can swipe right or left to choose if they find the person attractive or not. With most planes offering in-flight wi-fi,  users will be able to use the app on board, but it is also bluetooth-ready.

"This isn't my attempt to resolve some former incident where I didn't get to meet the girl of my dreams," Whaley told the Daily Beast "And naturally, it's a bit controversial. But there is definitely something to be said about being able to engage with someone on a flight and seeing what the possibilities are from there."

Even though the app isn't available yet, those who are interested can sign up for notifications to stay informed of its progress.

The app could have potential, but it also may not work out so well as the dating pool on a flight is pretty small. Many of the passengers on the flight could be children or much older, or even married. Then there may be those who just want to use it to try to join the mile high club while on board and get busy in the plane bathroom. Even Whaley understands that the app may be a hit or miss.

"I think it will make people curious, and you never know: someone might use it, and it might start a conversation that they might not have otherwise had," Whaley told ANIMAL New York. "It could turn out to be really good, or really bad. Either way, I think it's really funny."
