Casino snakes? Recent rumors slithering around said that patrons of The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem were being bitten by snakes. It's not true. The eastern Pennsylvania casino is snake free, despite what online rumors say.

A rumor started spreading on Facebook that the casino has a snake problems. A rumor said that someone had to go to the doctor after suffering from a snakebite and the doctor asked the patient if they recently went to the Bethlehem casino. These rumors happened to coincide with the last days of the Year of the Snake from the Chinese calendar. The New Year starts Friday, when the horse takes over.

The casino released a statement to the Express Times saying, There have been no reported incidents of snakes on our property. We do not allow any animals on property with the exception of service animals."

Casino spokeswoman Julia Corwin said that if a snake were in the casino, it would cause a commotion, which would have been caught by surveillance.

"If I saw a snake I would jump on a table," she said. "If there was any sighting of this there would be no way that we couldn't know about it."

The casino only became aware of the rumor through Facebook.

"It seems like there was one post that was going around and then it's been kind of modified in a bunch of different directions," she said.

Trooper William Ortiz of the state police said this isn't the only weird rumor he's heard. "You always hear all kinds of little stuff," he said. "It is strange but there is none."
