Tom Cruise is dead. At least that's what social media is saying. However the "Mission Impossible" actor didn't die. He's just the victim of an Internet death hoax. Cruise is just fine.

Rumors started circling on social media sites that Cruise died.  It isn't clear where the rumor started but it may have come from a report on Global Associated News which reads, "Actor Tom Cruise died in a single vehicle crash between Ipswich and Willowbank in Queensland as confirmed by Royal Queensland Police - January 24, 2014.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +10). Tom Cruise is believed to have been in the area while on vacation. He was identified by photo ID found at the scene. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this accident.

The Ipswich - Willowbank connector highway is known to be one of the most dangerous stretches of road in Australia due to road quality conditions and tight curves in the road."

The report includes details which may make it easier to believe but the report is fake. Global Associated News creates fake death reports with a generator. A not at the bottom of the site reads, "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! this story was dynamically generated using a generic 'template' and is not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank 'non-specific' template for the purpose of entertainment."

The rumor may have also been spread by Internet trolls. Many took to Twitter to talk about the death, but mentioned roles that Cruise never starred in, as if it were a joke. Some examples include:

"Can't believe Tom Cruise is dead, loved. him in Breaking Bad"

"Can't believe tom cruise is dead man he was my favourite character on spongebob rip in peace mate x"

"RIP Tom Cruise, I will never forget the black man you played in Shawshank redemption."

While some took it as a joke, others actually took the Twitter to mourn and question the death. Some of those tweets include:

"Has Tom Cruise died?"

"tom cruise is dead ... omg nooo ... we've lost another amazing actor #RIPTomCruise"

"Is Tom Cruise actually dead??!!"

"RIP Tom Cruise. xxx"

Tom Cruise is fine fans.
