Say it isn't so! A Velveeta shortage could means that grocery store shelves across America may not have the delicious cheese products.

"Given the incredible popularity of Velveeta this time of year, it is possible consumers may not be able to find their favorite product on store shelves over the next couple of weeks," Kraft spokeswoman Jody Moore told Ad Age. "Our retail customers are aware of the situation and we expect it to be a short-term issue."

Due to a higher demand and a combination of other factors, there is a supply issue. The shortage comes at a bad time as Super Bowl Sunday comes up. The product, which is popular for dips, is often used at Super Bowl parties.

However the shortage may not be so widespread yet. Ad Age contacted grocery stores in Brooklyn, which said that they weren't expecting shipments again until February due to a plant issue. NBC also contacted stores in Brooklyn and Manhattan and many reported that they were out of Velveeta.

"We just keep ordering it," Thomas Murray, manager for dairy at a Key Food in Brooklyn told NBC. He hasn't received a case since December."It's not coming in."

"Three weeks ago, same problem," said Sam Ahmed, manager of a Met Foods supermarket in Brooklyn.

However NBC says stores in New Jersey, Delaware and Illinois said they had the product.

Those who are in areas that are facing a Velveeta shortage may have to ration their use over the next few weeks until stores get shipments again. Thankfully, Moore says it isn't expected to last long.

"This is really a short-term issue that's more noticeable right now given the increased seasonal demand," Kraft's Moore told NBC. She said the company hasn't received many complaints yet. "This is really something that would likely have gone unnoticed at any other time of year."
