A Logan International Airport worker was killed on Monday after he was hit by a truck on the tarmac.

According to Boston.com, the 59-year-old Melrose man was killed while he was on foot, guiding a waste removal truck just before 7:20 p.m. at a cargo terminal. The truck reportedly went in reverse and hit the man under a plane. Troopers were investigating and interviewed the driver and witnesses on Monday night.

The driver was a 47-year-old man. The names of the victim and driver have not been released. The driver did not appear to be under the influence of anything, but he will be drug and alcohol tested. He was taken to a local hospital for stress.

"At this stage, the fatality appears to be accidental," Wark said in a statement. "He showed no obvious signs of impairment, but will be tested for drug and alcohol use pursuant to employment policy," Wark said.

No criminal charges were filed as of Monday night.

It is not clear what companies the driver or victim worked for or if they worked for the same company. It is also not clear what airline operated the plane that the man was hit under.

A State Police collision reconstruction team will investigate the incident. Their reports usually take a couple of weeks to complete. Investigators will also examine the truck to determine if there are any defects.
