Thanksgiving travel is going to be busy this holiday and part of the reason is due to cheaper than usual gas prices. According to AAA, drivers are expected to pay the cheapest gas prices for the Thanksgiving holidays since 2010.

The national gas price average is the cheapest is has been all year and it's expected to continue to drop over the next few weeks, meaning holiday driving won't be too pricey. According to AAA, gas prices are averaging $3.19 per gallon across the nation. As of Wednesday, AAA says the national average had dropped a total of 41 cents per gallon since Labor Day, making it the cheapest it has been all year, Yahoo reports.

AAA says that one-in-four U.S. gas station are selling gas for less than $3.00 as the majority of states are averaging below this rate. Only about 10 percent of gas stations are selling gas for more than $3.50 per gallon, meaning most drivers will have a good chance of spending less.

The states with the cheapest gas are Arkansas ($2.93), Kansas ($2.96) and Louisiana ($2.99). The highest gas prices are found in Hawaii ($4.04) and California ($3.61). The national average hasn't fallen below $3.00 per gallon since Dec. 22, 2010.

Since gas is cheaper, drivers will be able to save money that could be used towards other purposes during a holiday trip like on dining and shopping. With gas prices being down, about 38.9 million American travelers will take to the roads this holiday.

According to AAA, 43.3 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday weekend. However despite the high number, it is a slight decrease of 1.5 percent from the 44 million who traveled last year.
